My company has 2 branches, one that is based on Java 1.5, and another that still supports Java 1.4.2. We still have users on older Macs running 1.4 that cannot switch to 1.5 without upgrading their OS. Just noticed that this thread is quite old, its now 2009, but it will be quite some time before we could even think about moving to 1.6, mostly because of a significant Mac user base. To the best of my knowledge, Java 6 is only available in OS X Leopard. Most Mac users are still running Tiger.
