User runtime menu and toolbar configuration

Postby srogers » Mon Apr 11, 2005 5:13 pm

A new feature which would be very useful is the ability to configure menus and toolbars at run time by the user.
This would allow user to create new toolbars and menus, add commands to toolbars and menus etc.
Personally am more interested in the toolbar customization than the menu, but both would be very useful and good feature.
This is similar to the functionality Word has via the Tools -> Customize menu option.

This feature was actually part of the planning when we developed JIDE Action Framework. However at the end, it was dropped after we realized this feature is not that important at that moment. Yes we will include this feature later. Just so you know, command bar supports adding/removing components on fly. If your application has a nice way to define actions, you can implement this feature to certain extend (except not being to drag-n-drop to customize it like in Word).

Thanks.
